Rococo

Yay!  The sun came back!   (Those of you who read this journal entry will know what I'm talking about:  fav.me/d93gyxl)

The Rococo period has to be one of the most opulent and extravagant periods in fashion history, in my opinion.  I mean, look at those incredible hairdos and crazy-wide panniers on the dresses.  (Fitting in coaches or walking through doors became an art in and of itself, I imagine.)  On top of that, you have to remember that back then there were no such things as sewing machines.  Every last embroidery stitch and piece of lace was hand-sewn or -woven, and somebody spent hours styling those towering wigs.  And then there was the weird "patch" trend - people stuck fake moles, in various shapes, on their skin.  Rumor has it, the patches were originally meant to hide scars from early childhood diseases such as smallpox, but eventually it just became its own thing.  Funny how these things get started, isn't it?

Edit: I just realized this is the first piece of artwork I've posted all year.  I can't tell whether to be pleased with myself for finally getting something done or ashamed at how long it's been since my last piece, lol.

... I think I will be pleased with myself.  Because that is much pleasanter for me
